onophon is a poetic duo created in wien in may 2001 by werner nowacek and rainer deutner. they call it "text phonetic decoration factory". they combine elements of literature, theatre, music, spoken word and performance. with an impeccable and surprising vocal technique, they submit language to their verbalising; they create rhythms and new meanings and they improvise with every-day language patterns. their texts and performances are characterised by their sense of humour and fast rhythm. despite breathless meaning, texts are reasonably digestible even for those who do not understand german.
it's a brave and amusing poetic proposal, with a personal work on rhythm and phonetics that has already been to festivals such as maulhelden (berlin) or the german international poetry slam (hamburg); it confirms that the wiener poetic scene is in good health. they will present pieces from their new show glottal stop.
